Robot Warriors is a Japanese/Canadian anime television series produced by Studio Aura and YTV Family. The anime is YTV Family's first original anime series (previous anime dubs co-produced by YTV Family, such as FLCL: Alt and Battle Spirits: Fighter Force, were based off other anime that first aired outside Canada; in those cases, Nicktoons Family and TV Asahi respectively). The series is described as a kid-friendly deconstruction of Neon Genesis Evangelion, which itself deconstructed mecha anime.

The anime was initially confirmed for The CW, as part of the Nickelodeon Family on The CW block, in the United States. However, on September 30th, 2018, it was instead announced that the series would instead air new episodes on the flagship Nickelodeon Family channel, as part of the new "NickFamily Anime" block (a soft-reboot of the former channel of the same name that was since rebranded into OrbitAnime).

On May 10th, 2019, upon episode 31 being aired, it was announced that the anime would go on a hiatus and come back as Robot Warriors II on October 11th, 2019 (originally set for August 9th, 2019, but was delayed due to various issues). Coincidentally, it was announced in December 2019 that Robot Warriors II would be the last season.

In May 2020, it was announced that the final two episodes, originally set to air on May 1st and 8th, 2020, would be delayed until June 5th and 12th, 2020 respectively as a result of the 2019–20 coronavirus pandemic.

Production[]

In August 2018, Robot Warriors was put into production, with around 600 different animators at NickFamily Studios Japan working on the project (later cut to 300), with around 130 animating each episode. In an interview, YTV Family stated that they wanted a robot anime for children but didn't want to exclude adults from the viewing audience.
